This focused 3-day course is designed exclusively to prepare law enforcement and public safety professionals to pass the FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Certification Exam—a legal requirement for operating drones commercially or on behalf of a public agency in the United States.

The course provides in-depth instruction on every subject area covered by the FAA’s Part 107 exam, including airspace classifications, drone flight restrictions, weather interpretation, operational limitations, and federal aviation regulations. Students will learn how to read aeronautical charts, decode aviation weather reports (METARs/TAFs), understand airspace authorization procedures, and apply FAA rules to real-world scenarios.

Course Objectives

This 24-hour course provides comprehensive instruction in the subject areas included in the FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Knowledge Test. Students will develop the knowledge needed to understand federal UAS regulations, evaluate airspace and weather conditions, plan safe drone operations, and prepare confidently for the FAA examination.

Upon completion of the course, students will be able to:

• Understand the subject areas contained in the FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Airman Certification Standards
• Identify controlled, uncontrolled, and special-use airspace
• Interpret FAA sectional charts, airport information, airspace boundaries, and chart symbols
• Decode and apply aviation weather information contained in METAR and TAF reports
• Understand how weather conditions affect drone performance and flight safety
• Evaluate aircraft loading, weight, balance, and other performance factors
• Apply appropriate procedures during emergencies and abnormal flight conditions
• Understand Part 107 regulations, operating limitations, and Remote Pilot in Command responsibilities
• Review airspace authorization and waiver procedures
• Understand the requirements for night operations
• Identify the responsibilities of pilots, visual observers, and other flight-crew members
• Apply aeronautical decision-making and crew resource management principles
• Complete a 60-question practice examination modeled after the FAA Remote Pilot Knowledge Test
• Receive a Certificate of Completion with 24 hours of Georgia P.O.S.T. training credit
