Darrin Marcus is our lead instructor and President/CEO of Marcus and Marcus, Incorporated. He is a 24-year law enforcement veteran with thousands of hours of classroom hours taught in person and online.
Darrin started his law enforcement career with the Macon Police Department in 1997. Soon after he hit the road veteran officers noticed something special in him and mentored him early on in his career.
One of his first big accomplishments was to get a covenant spot on the departments DUI Task Force. After only a few years on the road, he was selected to join the specialized unit that focused on DUI and speed enforcement. He quickly became one of the rising stars arresting approximately 30 DUI drivers a month. He was so good at catching them that he was asked to teach new officers how to do it. This led to an opportunity to go to instructor school in 2001 where his lesson plan was about DUI enforcement.
After completing Basic Instructor Training, he would go on and complete numerous instructor schools such as Speed Detection Instructor, DUI & Field Sobriety Instructor, Defensive Tactics Instructor, EVOC Instructor, Firearms Instructor, OC Spray Instructor, and a host of other instructor classes. It was clear that training was quickly becoming a big part of his career path.
Darrin knew he wanted more from the instructor program, so he applied for and achieved his Senior Training Instructor by completing the necessary requirements put in place by the Georgia P.O.S.T. Council. Soon after he started his journey to become a Master Training Instructor, the highest designation of instructor obtained in the state. In October of 2013, he would go on to complete the program and be awarded certification. He would become the only person to reach that status in the history of the Macon Police Department. In addition to all the law enforcement certifications, Darrin is also certified as a classroom and firearms instructor through the Georgia Board of Private Detectives and Security Agency. His license number is CFTR001133. He is also a FAA licensed drone pilot.
Darrin would go on to achieve the rank of sergeant and be transferred to the Training Division of the Macon Police Department. He would go on to become the Assistant Training Director for the organization. He was responsible for all recruit and in-service training conducted at the department. He was also in charge of the Field Training Officer program and managed recruit status as they progressed through the FTO phases.
In January 2014, Darrin was approached by the leadership of the Bibb County District Attorney’s Office about an open position as an investigator and trainer for the law enforcement and attorneys who wanted to carry weapons. He took that position as the police and sheriff’s department consolidated by charter into the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office. He still holds that position today and plans to do so until retirement. A copy of his CV is available upon request.
Darrin is married to his beautiful wife Tanya, and they have three children. Tanya is also the Vice-President/CFO of operations at Marcus and Marcus, Inc.
